It is hard to believe we are already approaching the end of 2017.  This has been a successful year for the Century City Bar Association so far, and I am pleased to report that we have additional exciting events lined up for the remainder of the year and into next year.

In August, we held our first “Third Thursdays” mixer.  The inaugural mixer was well attended, and we look forward to continuing to grow this newly established monthly event.  As the name suggests, we will be hosting a mixer every third Thursday of the month at Cuvée, so please join us for a drink at the next event, which will be held on Thursday, November 19.

Last month, we hosted a program addressing the state of immigration law under the Trump Administration.  The event was entitled Should I Stay or Should I Go?  Immigration in the Trump Era.  The panel discussion featured four outstanding guests:  Annaluisa Padilla, President of the American Immigration Lawyers Association; Veronica Barba of Lucas & Barba, LLP, and Frances Hayden of D’Alessio Law Group.  I would like to personally thank our panelists and all who attended and helped make the event a success.

Our next big event is our annual Poker Tournament, which will take place on Thursday, November 2 at L’Ermitage Hotel in Beverly Hills.  This is my personal favorite event of the year, and it promises to be a great time, even for those who have never played poker before.  Free lessons will be offered before the event begins, so if you are new to the game, this is a great way to learn it.  Look for the flyer on the CCBA website for all the details, and I will look forward to seeing you there.

We are extremely honored to welcome attorney Tom Mesereau to our Distinguished Speakers luncheon series on November 16. He will be speaking to us about trials. Keep a lookout for an upcoming flyer in your inboxes and on our website for registration details and location. It will sell out quickly, so be sure to sign up

On January 18, we will host an important and relevant MCLE breakfast on stress, anxiety, and substance abuse in the legal profession, hosted at Greenberg Traurig. Check your inboxes for that flyer in the coming days.

We have also begun planning the CCBA’s 50th Annual Installation Banquet and Awards Ceremony, which will take place in the Spring.  Please watch for updates and remember that you can follow the CCBA on Facebook and LinkedIn.

Finally, we currently have seats on the Board to fill.  Board service is a wonderful way to connect with other high-quality practitioners and serve the Century City legal community.  If you are interested, please contact me ( or Duane Kumagai ( directly.
