Concert Deja Vu, the British Invasion & Trivia Contest

Well, in the past 13 months I have been to all of two rock concerts, a far cry from my heyday, and both were “re-runs” of prior concerts.  Shortly over a year ago I saw Depeche Mode at the Staples Center.  Solid concert, but I had seen them 15 or so years earlier at the (then-home of the Lakers) Forum, and much of the concert present was like the concert past.

GLA ALA Justice Jog



 

On Sunday, September 14, 2014, CASA of Los Angeles held their 7th Annual Justice Jog in Century City.  The event was held in partnership with the Greater Los Angeles Association of  Legal Administrators.  In 2013 the Justice Jog raised $94,000 to support the programs of CASA Los Angeles.  The law firms with the top three times this year are:  Jeffer Mangles Butler & Mitchell, LLP, Elkins, Kalt Weintraub Rube Gartside LLP, and Bird Marella. Congratulations to everyone who participated!

Establishing a Successful Law Practice: What Every Rising Star Needs to Know


On September 16, 2014, the CCBA put on a panel discussion entitled Establishing a Successful Law Practice: What Every Rising Star Needs to Know.  The event took place at Irell & Manella and featured Michelle Lee Flores, partner at Cozen O’Connor P.C.; Tom Ara, partner at Greenberg Traurig, LLP; Alison Plessman, partner at Irell & Manella LLP; and Ara Babaian, founding principal of the Encore Law Group.  Approximately 40 people attended the event which is part of a series of CLE events aimed at assisting the junior practitioner.  The next panel will focus on working with in house counsel. Please keep an eye out for the date.

The CCBA's first Annual Poker Tournament that took place in June at the L’Ermitage hotel in Beverly Hills.  The event generated many donations of gently used business attire for Chrysalis, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing homeless and low-income individuals with the resources and support necessary to find and retain employment.

On August 12, 2014, we welcomed back Dean Erwin Chemerinsky to our annual Constitutional Law Luncheon at Lawry’s Prime Rib. A roomful of lawyers came to hear the founding Dean of the UC Irvine School of Law summarize the major US Supreme Court decisions of the most recent term.
