Panel:

Tom K. Ara is a shareholder in Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Century City office where he focuses on entertainment and media industry transactions. Tom has led multiple large financing and M&A transactions that have involved some of the largest motion picture and television companies and franchises, including slate financing vehicles valued in the hundreds of millions of dollars, corporate credit facilities, restructuring transactions involving the ownership of television properties, and the acquisition and sale of several motion picture and television libraries. Tom handles a multitude of complex entertainment and media transactions spanning the globe, with a particular emphasis on clients located in and transactions that have involved Europe, Asia and the Middle East. In 2014, Tom was selected as one of the Daily Journal’s Top 20 under 40.

Michelle Lee Flores is a member of Cozen O’Connor’s Los Angeles office in the labor and employment group.  Michelle has over 20 years of experience practicing labor and employment law.  Michelle is a frequent lecturer and author of various articles on employment law published in the Los Angeles Daily Journal Employment Law360 and Los Angeles Business Journal, among others. She has also been quoted on employment matters in publications such as the Los Angeles Times and been a guest legal commentator on KUSI San Diego, The Roger Hedgecock Show and Fox 5 San Diego. Michelle is also an advisory board contributor to the California Employment Law Letter/HRhero. Michelle was named a California Super Lawyer for 2014.  In 2012 Michelle was one of 40 women recognized for their networking efforts by The Recorder's Women Leaders in Law.

Alison Plessman is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Irell & Manella LLP where she is a member of the litigation practice group. Alison routinely represents plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes litigation matters, including securities litigation and white collar defense.  In 2013, Ms. Plessman was selected by The Recorder as one of only 50 "California Lawyers on the Fast Track." The list highlights attorneys in their first 10 years of practice who stand out among their peers based on career achievements and leadership roles within their practice, organization and community.  Alison also serves on the Western Center on Law & Poverty Board of Directors, as well as on its finance and public relations committees. She also served on the Board of Governors of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles (“WLALA”), serving as Co-Chair of WLALA’s Litigation Section from 2010 to 2012, and as Co-Chair of the Career Development and Life Balance Committee in 2012 and 2013.

Nina Ries is the founding principal of the Ries Law Group, a full-service firm with a practice that encompasses all aspects of business law from advice to litigation.  The firm also provides outside general counsel services to growing businesses. NIna has served on a number of Boards, including the Executive Board of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Barristers (2004-2009), the Editorial Board of Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine (2002-2003), and has also served as a member of the Board of a nonprofit corporation (2006-2010), the Executive Board of the USC Gould School of Law Young Alumni Committee (2004-2012; co-chair 2011-2012). Nina helped to found the USC Gould School of Law Alumni Association, and serves as President of the organization.  Most recently, Nina was named to the USC Alumni Association Board of Governors.


Moderator:

Amy Alderfer is a member of Cozen O’Connor’s Los Angeles office in the commercial litigation group.  Amy is the 2014-2015 President of the Century City Bar Association and is its immediate past Secretary.  An experienced litigator and trial attorney, Amy’s experience encompasses pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, products liability, securities litigation, arbitration and commercial lease litigation, and major commercial disputes.



Program Host:

Jane Shay Wald is a partner emeritus of Irell & Manella LLP and chair of the firm's trademark practice group. Jane is Past President of the Century City Bar Association where she currently serves on the Board of Governors.
