Ethical Guidelines for Practicing in the Cloud

As the cloud-based legal software industry grows, more and more attorneys are taking advantage of the benefits that cloud-based tools offer.  But with new technologies come new ethical issues for attorneys.  Our expert panel will identify and discuss these issues, including obligations owed to clients regarding online storage of sensitive data, security breach risk management, and other challenges associated with practicing in the cloud.


Panel:

Heather Antoine is an Internet and IP attorney. She is founder of Antoine Law Group, APC, based in California. Her practice focuses on IP compliance for companies doing business online, which includes drafting terms of use and privacy policies. She also litigates trademark and copyright disputes and a range of Internet law actions including, domain disputes, cyber defamation, cyber bullying, and rights of publicity matters. Heather regularly writes and speaks about Internet law, technology, and IP and is currently serving as the Program Chair for the California State Bar Intellectual Property Section's Technology, Internet, and Privacy Interest Group.

 

Joshua Lenon is the Lawyer in Residence at Clio, the most widely-used cloud based practice management system. Trained in international and comparative law, Joshua provides legal scholarship and practical training to both teams in Clio, as well as to law firms across North America.

 

 

 


David McCain is the President of Digital Matrix Forensics, Inc. He has extensive experience in digital forensics and security both in law enforcement and the civil arena. He also teaches a myriad of digital forensic courses for the U.S. State Department. He has testified as an expert on state, federal and military courts.

Robert Freund is a litigation associate at Greenberg Traurig, LLP.  He focuses his practice on commercial litigation, financial services litigation, and class action defense.  Robert serves on the Board of Governors of the Century City Bar Association.


 

 

Program Organizer:

Duane Kumagai, of Kumagai Law Group, is a Creditors’ Rights attorney with extensive experience litigating business fraud, complex collections, trade disputes and bankruptcy adversary actions .  He represents clients in all major industries, including technology, banking and finance, franchising, manufacturing and distribution, automotive, construction, real estate, entertainment, apparel, international trade and clean energy. Duane is the Century City Bar Association’s 2015-2016 President.
